California Bitcoin is operated by Davisville Labs LLC. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect information when you visit CaliforniaBitcoin.org, browse the public Bitcoin Learning Library, purchase a membership, sign in, use the guided Dashboard, or contact us.

1. Information We Collect

The information we collect depends on how you use California Bitcoin.

• Public Library activity: You may browse the Bitcoin Learning Library without an account. When you save a public resource while signed out, the saved resource may be stored locally in your browser until you clear that browser data or later sync it to a paid account.
• Account and authentication information: We may collect your email address, name or profile details provided by your sign-in provider, authentication provider, user identifier, and sign-in activity.
• Learning records: We may store lesson and unit progress, completed activities, saved Library resources, private reflections, saved notes, badges, and learning milestones.
• Membership and billing information: We may store your membership plan, billing interval, subscription status, Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, renewal date, cancellation status, and access-through date. Stripe processes payment card details. California Bitcoin does not receive or store your complete card number.
• Communications: We collect information you provide when you contact us, request support, or otherwise communicate with us.
• Technical and usage information: Our hosting, security, authentication, and analytics providers may process information such as IP address, approximate location, browser type, device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, session activity, timestamps, and cookie or similar identifiers.

2. How We Use Information

We use information to:

• Provide and maintain the public Library, membership experience, Dashboard, Learning Archive, and related features.
• Authenticate members and prevent unpaid access to paid learning content.
• Process purchases, manage subscriptions, and display membership status and renewal information.
• Save and synchronize learning progress, reflections, notes, saved resources, badges, and milestones.
• Send sign-in links, account confirmations, billing notices, security messages, and other service-related communications.
• Respond to support requests and troubleshoot account or payment issues.
• Protect the service, investigate misuse, prevent fraud, and enforce our terms.
• Understand how the website is used and improve its content, performance, and customer experience.
• Meet legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory obligations.

3. Cookies, Local Storage, and Analytics

California Bitcoin uses cookies and similar browser technologies for authentication, security, saved public Library resources, preferences, and site measurement.

We use Google Analytics to understand general website traffic and usage. A standard Google Analytics implementation may collect session statistics, approximate location, browser and device information, and a client identifier stored in a first-party cookie. We do not intentionally send names, email addresses, private reflections, or payment card information to Google Analytics.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Doing so may affect sign-in, saved resources, and other features. You may also use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

4. How We Disclose Information

We disclose limited information to service providers that help us operate California Bitcoin. These providers may process information only for the services they provide to us or as otherwise permitted by their own terms and applicable law.

• Supabase: Authentication, account records, database services, learning progress, reflections, notes, and saved resources.
• Stripe: Checkout, payment processing, subscriptions, invoices, fraud prevention, and the customer billing portal.
• Resend: Delivery of authentication and service-related email.
• Google: Google sign-in and Google Analytics.
• Cloudflare: Website hosting, content delivery, network security, and related technical services.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect the rights and safety of users or others, investigate fraud or abuse, or complete a merger, financing, reorganization, sale, or transfer of all or part of the business.

We do not sell personal information for money. We do not rent member email lists. We do not use private reflections or saved notes for advertising.

5. Third-Party Content and Links

The Library and Dashboard may link to or embed educational content hosted by third parties, such as video, audio, podcast, publishing, or social platforms. When you load, play, or interact with third-party content, that provider may receive information such as your IP address, device information, cookies, or account activity under its own privacy policy. California Bitcoin does not control the privacy practices of those third parties.

6. Data Retention

We retain account, membership, and learning information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain accurate business records, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and comply with legal obligations. Billing and transaction records may be retained for tax, accounting, and legal purposes even after an account is closed.

Public Library saves stored locally in your browser remain there until you clear your browser data or remove those saved items. Service providers may retain information according to their own retention policies. Backup copies may remain for a limited period before being overwritten or deleted.

7. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. These safeguards include encrypted connections, access controls, authentication protections, and database authorization policies. No online service or storage system can guarantee absolute security.

You are responsible for maintaining control of your email account and Google account and for signing out of shared devices.

8. Your Privacy Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information associated with you. You may also have rights relating to data portability, objection, restriction, sensitive personal information, or the sale or sharing of personal information.

California residents may have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended, including rights to know, delete, correct, opt out of certain sales or sharing, limit certain uses of sensitive personal information, and receive equal service when exercising applicable privacy rights.

Some information may be retained when necessary to complete transactions, maintain security, prevent fraud, comply with law, or exercise legal rights.

9. Children's Privacy

California Bitcoin is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can review and remove it when appropriate.

10. International Data Processing

California Bitcoin is operated from the United States. Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Privacy laws in those locations may differ from the laws where you live.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as California Bitcoin, our service providers, or applicable laws change. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the date shown above. When appropriate, we may also provide notice through the website, your account, or a service-related email.
